4 Year Old Preschool
The 4-year-old preschool class is designed to prepare children for later school by developing good listening habits, extending the span of attention, teaching how to carry out simple directions, and awakening curiosity about “why and how.”
Course Description
:
We use a curriculum that includes shapes, colors, direction concepts (left-right), and position terms (middle, beside, etc.) with a multi-media approach (books, worksheets, tapes, games, and visual aids). These activities help children improve their auditory and visual discrimination, practice oral skills, and develop fine motor skills.
§ Integrated with the curriculum are units on self-awareness, family focus, and neighborhood and community.
§ A number unit is taught which allows the child to improve counting skills and learn to recognize and write the numerals 1 through 10.
§ An alphabet unit is used so that the children are given the opportunity to learn, recognize and write the letters of the alphabet (upper case) and learn their sequence.
§ Enrichment units such as nutrition, animals, weather, etc. are added for the children's interest.
§ The learning and practice of these concepts and skills is done through a variety of activities such as singing, art an crafts projects, gross motor games, visual and oral games, etc.
§ Children are encouraged to participate in a show-and-tell experience. Monthly newsletters will be sent home to keep parents informed of upcoming events.
The program is unhurried. No specific level of achievement is required and peer comparisons are not made. Each student's progress will be reported in January and May.
