Dear Friends in Christ,

I don't think that I need to provide further information on the incredible destruction and devastation that is present in Haiti. The effects of the earthquake in Haiti is well publicized by the media. We are all seeing the same horrifying images. We are also watching many people jump into action, making every effort to ensure that the people of Haiti are receiving the assistance that is desperately needed.

I have been receiving many emails asking the question "How can I help?" Well, you need to know that the Presbyterian Church has a presence in Haiti. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has already sent funds and is working in cooperation with our ecumenical partners on the ground to provide emergency food, water, shelter and medical supplies. Continue to pray for those affected and give cash donations as you are able to support the ongoing relief efforts.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), the emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church (USA), enables congregations and mission partners to witness to the healing love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by crisis and catastrophic events. Its core budget, including staff and administrative costs, is funded through the One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS), and its program work is additionally funded through designated gifts. PDA is already mobilized and is rushing an initial $100,000 from OGHS through their ecumenical and local partners working in Haiti. Donations will help meet people's physical needs and provide emotional and spiritual care to survivors and those who care for them.

If you would like to give to his fund for the Haiti Relief Effort, there are several ways to do so. On Sunday during worship, we will accept donations from individuals for the PDA Haiti Fund. Your check should be made payable to "Cross Roads Presbyterian Church." The church will then send one check to PDA. During the offering on Sunday, place your offering in a clearly marked envelope specifically designated for the Haiti Relief Effort. If Possible, please place this offering in a separate envelope from your regular offering. Be sure to write "Haiti" in the memo section of your check as well. We want to ensure that every dollar intended for this relief effort is identified and sent to PDA.

If you would like to see further information on this PDA relief effort, check the web site http://www.pcusa.org/pda/response/latinamerica/haiti-index.htm

A prayer from the PC(USA) web site:
We pray for Haiti

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As the eyes of the world turn to Haiti, let us join our hearts in prayer:
God of compassion
please watch over the people of Haiti,
and weave out of these terrible happenings
wonders of goodness and grace.
Surround those who have been affected by tragedy
with a sense of your present love,
and hold them in faith.
Though they are lost in grief,
may they find you and be comforted.
Guide us as a church
to find ways of providing assistance
that heal wounds and provide hope.
Help us to remember that when one of your children suffers
we all suffer;
through Jesus Christ who was dead, but lives
and rules this world with you. Amen.
